 RULES
« Thread Started on Jun 17, 2004, 9:22pm »

The following are the rules of this forum. If you violate the rules the first time you will be warned. The Second time in violating these rules will, depending on the degree, either get you temporarily banned, or you will receive a warning. The Third time violating one of these rules will get you temporarily banned. The fourth and final time you violate these rules, you will get permanently banned.

I. No God Moding (AKA Power Playing). This means you take control of what happens to another persons character.

II. Nothing over a PG-13 rating may be played out. Excessive material unsuited for people under the age of 13 is prohibited. All users need to realize that younger people play in these forums.

III. No flaming of other members on the board. Keep your personal fights out of the forum. Instant Message then, Private Message them, what ever it takes to keep flaming out of the public view. We have had a problem with this last war. Lets not let it happen again.

IV. Cursing is allowed as long as it is In Character. Remember, keep it at a PG-13 level. Absolutely no profanity directed at other users, this also is in accordance to rule III.

V. No spamming. There will be absolutly no usless spamming of the boards. This includes completely unrelated posts/messages in RPs.

VI. Obviously, no technology that does not exist in the realm of Tolkien's Middle-Earth. This means no AK-47's, no Abrams Tanks, etc.
_______________________________________________________

The following are regulations that should be followed. They will, in particular, not get you punished, as they are not as important as the regular forum rules. However, this does not mean that you may break these regulations however much you like. If we see you do it multiple times after we have told you to stop, then you will face possible punishment.

-Role Playing posts should be no less than 6 lines, in general. More is recommended. Absolutely no one liners. Of coarse it is your freedom to post as much as you like, and in special cases, only one liners are needed. However, the majority of the posts should be no less than six lines, as it helps the other user in his reply, and it helps the overall enjoyment and quality of the forum.

-Any Out Of Character statements in an In Character board must have some from of differentiation. Posting "OOC:" (Out Of Character) is recommended for this.

-Grammar and spelling should be done well. You do not have to be perfect, but good enough. This means no abbreviating. Example: "I R winner!", or "Frodo c's u wit hiz I's." Spell it out people, your not in kindergarten (at least I hope). This, like the first regulation, helps improve the overall satisfaction of the Role Playing community.

-You should stay within the realm of the time in speaking tone and manner of the times in which the One Ring was around. This means no 20th century slang.

-Post regularly. Before joining an RP, keep in mind the responsibility entailed -- you need to read the RP and post regularly, so don't join an RP or several RPs if you cannot keep up with them. A common cause of RP death is the disappearance of one of the main posters. If your character goes fully inactive, it will be deleated.

-Be descriptive of feelings, emotions, thoughts, and physical motions and pains (Etc) as well. I'm not as strict on this one as I am on the others. But it helps create the mood of your post.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Those rules need to be followed. We are a little more strict on this war than the last one (War of the Ring II) because there were some problems. Now that you have read the rules, you can begin with your creation of your character. But before you do, make sure that you understand fully how this forum is operated, to learn this, you can read the description in the Hall of Instruction, or you can read the FAQ section. Also before your apply for your character, make sure you read how to create your character in the sticky in that board, or else it will be turned down and you will not be admitted into the forums as that character. So make sure you follow the guidelines.

On behalf of the Administrative Team, I welcome you to the War for Middle Earth.

Types of Godmoding

For those who are unfamiliar with what God Moding actually is, this post is here to inform you. This will explore, and describe some of the main forms of common God Modes. I hope that this post will be benificial to you, in order for you to avoid God Moding.

Version I. Standard Godmoding
This type of Godmoding is the most commonly seen. This is where your character never misses, never gets injured, never dies, unrealisticly superior, etc. This catagory of Godmoding also describes when a user has "unlimited money, skills, items, etc.". If you are still unclear, here is an example: "Aragorn is a mighty King. He wears armor that blocks all outside dangers, he has a sword that will cut anything, and since he is a King, he has a super ability to fly and use the force."

Version II. Hidden Standard Godmoding
This is basically Standard Godmoding, only it has been watered down so that it 'appears' to be realistic. They may allow themselves to be hit once or twice, but they unsually seem to win every time. These players still have the problem of outclassing the other RPers, drastically changing and/or ruining plot with their god-like skills, and overall taking all the challenge/fun out of an RP. These types of Godmoders are the ones that are constantly crying "I'm not a Godmoder", even when the rest of the community has decided so.

Those are the main forms of Godmoding. However, there are some other forms of Godmoding, such as characters with enough flaws of skill and personality to potentially make a good character, but they have too many, well developed, all-encompassing powers.
